Storm Damage: What to Do Next
If hail or wind just came through and you're worried about your roof, siding, or gutters, here's a simple path forward — whether or not you end up involving your insurance company.
Step 1: Stay safe and stay off the roof
Don't climb onto a wet or damaged roof. Stay clear of downed limbs and anything touching power lines. If water is getting inside, move belongings out of the way and limit further damage where it's safe to do so.
Step 2: Document what you can see
Take photos from the ground: missing or lifted shingles, dents in gutters and downspouts, damaged siding, cracked window screens, and hail marks on decks, cars, or outdoor equipment. Note the date of the storm. These photos are useful later, whatever you decide to do.
Step 3: Get an inspection
Hail and wind damage isn't always visible from the ground. We'll walk the property, look at the roof, siding, gutters, and any related areas, and tell you plainly what we find — including when the damage is minor and a repair is all you need.
Step 4: Get a detailed estimate
If the damage is significant, we put together a written scope and estimate you can use however you need to — including sharing it with your insurance company if you decide to file a claim. We can meet with your insurance adjuster to go over the damage and scope, and submit supplements or additional damage findings if something gets missed. We stay in the contractor lane: we don't file, negotiate, manage, or represent you on the claim, and we don't interpret your policy — that decision and that relationship stay between you and your insurer. If the job is paid from insurance proceeds, our contract is typically written against those proceeds, unless you choose to pay for the work directly.
Step 5: Decide and schedule
Once you're ready — with or without insurance involved — we finalize the plan, sign the contract, collect the deposit, and put your project on the schedule.
